Short Notes

NOTE: 120-137A HAS 3 CASTING MARKS AROUND THE STARTER DRIVE AND IS TO BE USED ONLY WITH LATER MODEL FLYWHEEL. 120-137 HAS NO CASTING MARKS AND IS TO BE USED WITH EARLY MODEL FLYWHEEL. THE 120-137A IS DESIGNED TO ENGAGE DEEPER INTO THE FLYWHEEL.

Long Notes

Note that this is EXACTLY the Same as the 17122 (Even the OEM Number). The Difference Here is That VW Made a Flywheel Change in October of 1990 (Cabriolet, Golf and Jetta) to Cure an Engagement Noise Problem. The Only Difference in These Two Numbers is That the Front Housing on the 17123 Has 3 Casting Marks in the Holes Around the Starter Drive That the 17122 Does Not (the Front Housing Was Redesigned so That the Drive Will Engage Further Into the Flywheel). The 17123 MUST Be Used ONLY With the Later Flywheel (the 17122 Will NOT Work Here), EVEN IF THE LATER FLYWHEEL HAS BEEN REPLACED IN EARLIER VEHICLES (It is Sold by VW for Earlier Applications Also).
